"Swords into Scientific Ploughshares"

In 1969-70, Ted Hill was a U.S. Army Captain in Vietnam. Over thirty years later, he was invited to return to Vietnam to lecture on his discoveries in mathematics. As a result of that 2002 visit to Hanoi, he arranged for a small number of research mathematics books that his hosts needed to be sent to Vietnam.

In 2007, Ted made a return visit, this time to the newly established English-language International University HoChiMinh City. He found the library in great need of mathematics, science and technology books, and, upon his return to the States, he initiated a pilot book drive through the website, Books for Vietnam. (See also article "A Learning Experience", San Luis Obispo Tribune, May 15, 2007).

Due to challenging logistics and prohibitive costs, that effort has now been put on hold. If readers are aware of any agencies or other organizations that might be interested in continuing this project, please contact Ted: hill AT math.gatech.edu.
